3 Fall Outfits Inspired by Rooms in Our Home | Wit & Delight

Have you ever found yourself playing chameleon in your own home? Art imitates life and I, apparently, imitate the rooms in our house.

I once heard you should look in your closet to explore what types of color, texture, and pattern you’d love to incorporate into your interior decor. I think it is safe to say that it goes both ways: What I’ve been drawn to in the interior design world has impacted the way I dress.

For my November outfits post, my assignment was to pull together three outfits that reminded me of specific rooms in our home. Here’s what I came up with…

01

Pattern Play in the Green Room (shown above)

I pulled this H&M dress off the rack when shopping for kids’ clothing a couple of months ago and realized it would blend in perfectly with some of the artwork in the green room. The two prints that flank the fireplace (She’s Blooming print and The Fox Takes Off Her Gloves print) actually inspired the overall color palette for the space.

Bookish Style in the Blue Room

The blue room (or the library, as we sometimes refer to it) is the first room I designed in our home and it most definitely reflects my design sensibilities, with the love of pattern amped up a bit. I’ve always been comfortable with bookish/preppy looks and consider a loafer and statement collar less of a trend and more of a state of mind. You’ll see me in a similar outfit when I’m eighty, should my body allow me to hold on long enough!

Pop of Florals in the Peach Room

I like to dip my toe into somewhat gaudy apparel just enough to make my standard uniforms a little fresher. I blame/thank the existing color of our peach room for the selection of this top!
